在申請學校的時候，申請者的學校背景經常是入學委員會參考的標準之一，愈有名且多校友出國的學校，自然在申請時會有比較大的優勢。之前有聽過一位在美國就讀經濟博士的老師，他在演講中分享當年(90年代)詢問系上老師，對於台灣學生的印象，那位老師表示多數錄取者都是有台大、政大學位，也偶爾有清大的學生，這大概是那位教授對於台灣學生的背景印象。
